Shape the Future of Sentul: Exciting Community Events Ahead

Curious about local initiatives brewing in Sentul? Over August to October 2025, we’ve lined up a series of events that invite you to connect, contribute, and help reimagine the future of Sentul.

Visiting some of the back lanes of Sentul with the local community of designers, architects, journalists and history enthusiasts.

Earlier this May, a group of 10 residents, workers, and locals who love Sentul came together for a walk focused on exploring what makes Sentul unique — and where we can grow. Our goal? To take note of the qualities that make Sentul special, and to spot opportunities to improve the neighbourhood’s liveability.

Why are we doing this?

Sentul is a historic area close to the city centre, and with that combination comes unique challenges and opportunities that many locals will recognise, including:

  • Actively preserving and celebrating Sentul’s cultural heritage

  • Enhancing accessibility and safety in public spaces, especially for vulnerable communities

  • Deepening community connections across diverse groups

  • Strengthening environmental protection and sustainability

Waiting on authorities or developers to make these changes can feel distant and uncertain. Instead, we believe community-led initiatives in Sentul can spark meaningful change — starting with small steps within our own control.

Can we come together and make Sentul better?

Meeting up at the zlgdesign office. Discussions over better urban planning, walkability, cycling, rolling and safer and greener streets were part of the discussion.

At the zlgdesign office discussing findings from the walk and charting out the next steps.

We already know Sentul is home to a passionate and caring community — from thinkers to doers — working on inspiring projects in pockets around the neighbourhood.

Our vision is to connect Sentul locals to unlock even greater impact through collaboration and partnerships. We want to discover the answers together with Sentul’s community through open dialogue and shared action.

That’s why we wanted to create a space for people who care about Sentul to come together, and we’re calling this platform Reimagine Sentul.

As our first initiative, we’re launching a series of events designed to bring together community for inspiration, connection, and collaboration.

Back to that Sentul walk

Initial meeting to go over the mapping area with Gary Yeow of undo_my and Adeline Chua of ANTARA Lab.

During that 4-hour walk in May, we gathered a wealth of ideas and distilled them into four key themes:

  • Sentul’s history and cultural context

  • Improving walkability and rolling access

  • Creating and enhancing third spaces — inclusive community hubs

  • Promoting biophilic design and greening for wellbeing

From August through October 2025, join us for a dynamic series of events exploring these themes. We’ll bring in experts and local champions to inspire us and take practical steps to understand how these ideas can shape Sentul’s future.

Our call out to you

Maybe you’re passionate about making Sentul’s streets greener and safer for cyclists and pedestrians. Perhaps you run a community space looking for fresh programming ideas. Or you’re a property owner with a vacant lot and a vision for a vibrant Sentul F&B spot.

Through Reimagine Sentul, we’re building a platform for these connections to grow — nurturing partnerships that strengthen community resilience and spark grassroots action.

Come share your ideas, meet your neighbours, and explore how we can create a more liveable, connected, and vibrant Sentul, together.

This programme would not have been possible without the support of our community at zlgdesign, Sentul Then and Now, undo_my and those who contributed on an individual capacity.
